Orthopaedic Oncology

OrthoMemphis provides expertise in the management of tumors of the musculoskeletal system of adults and children.  This includes diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors of the extremities, benign and malignant.  We offer highly specialized diagnostic and surgical skills in conjunction with a team of specialists in the field of musculoskeletal tumors.

Dr. Michael Neel, fellowship-trained orthopaedic oncologist at OrthoMemphis, specializes in the evaluation and surgical treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors.  Dr. Neel is one of approximately 125 orthopaedic oncologists in the country and is a member of the adjunct faculty at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  He is a member of the limb salvage team at St. Jude Hospital who were among the first orthopaedic oncologists to use an innovative expandable joint replacement known as REPIPHYSIS® Expandable Implant to treat osteosarcoma (view Reader's Digest article here).  While the REPIPHYSIS® Expandable Implant can never fully function like natural bone, it provides for the ability to lengthen bone as the young patient grows.
